Description/Summary on the Association
ICT-ET, founded by a few private companies, was formally established on November 25, 2010 with the Charities and Societies Agency (License #2055) to EXPOSE, ENGAGE and ENABLE the private sector within the ICT industry in Ethiopia, As part of the recent CSO Directive, it was re-established at the Ministry of Trade on December 27, 2013 as Corpa Information and Communication Technology Trade Sectoral Association-Ethiopia officially but is still best known as ICT-ET. The association has three sectors within its scope, namely Information Technology, Communication Technology and Broadcasting Technology (please see table below).

To launch the association, ICT-ET in collaboration with Google, the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (MCIT) and Ethio Telecom hosted an event at the Hilton on January 18, 2011 which consisted of a keynote speech from HE Ato Debretsion GebreMichael, Minister of MCIT as well as speeches from Ethio Telecom’s CEO Jean -Michel Latute and Google’s Business and e-Government teams.

Organizational Structure
The Association (ICTET) shall be comprised of the following management bodies: A General Assembly, Auditor, Executive Committee and Other Staff.

Member of an Executive Committee cannot work as an Auditor.
As per the By-laws, the General Assembly will have the following duties and responsibilities:

When the General Assembly finds it necessary, it can delegate the power and functions listed under sub-section 1(e), j, k and l to the permanent or interim committee or leadership bodies of the association. The General Assembly would have the final say on the interpretation of these By-laws provided that it does not conflict with the relevant legal codes of Ethiopia.

Board Members

Seyoum Bereded, President

Seyoum has extensive experience in advanced IT systems from his time at leading multinational companies in the UK, the US and Canada such as Research in Motion, Eurostar UK LTD and Eloyalty US LTD. After working for six years at Research In Motion - the manufacturer of Blackberry as an Oracle Database Manager and Engineering Team Leader, he returned to Ethiopia following his appointment as Director General of the Ethiopian Millennium Festival National Secretariat. Currently he serves as Managing Director of Consopia. Seyoum has a Bachelor's in Mathematics from Addis Ababa University and a Master's Degree in Advanced IT from London South Bank University.

Levi Girma, Vice President (Communication Sector Head)

Levi Girma has spent the last 13 years in the three sectors of telecom: operator, network vendor & handset vendor. He started his telecom career at AT&T Wireless' HQs in Redmond, WA and served in different capacities across several divisions until 2006 where he left AT&T Wireless as Director of International Operations in San Juan, PR to join Nokia Networks (now NSN) as Country Head for Tanzania. He later transferred to Nokia (handset division) where he oversaw several countries within East Africa and was instrumental in introducing Nokia's 'Ethiopic' device for the Ethiopian Millennium. In 2008, he returned to Ethiopia to participate in the telecom sector by initially establishing BravoCom PLC, Nokia's Partner in Ethiopia. Levi has a Bachelor's in Business from the University of Washington and an MBA from Seattle University.

Yilkal Abate, Secretary General (IT Sector Head)

Yilkal Abate is a technology and business professional with over 10 years experience in the development of IT solutions, risk management tools, software apps, process improvement, and web technologies in the financial, education, and consulting industries.

He has previously worked in different capacities at Liberty Mutual in Boston, AIG in NY, Richmond University in London, and Analysis International Ltd. UK. Yilkal returned to Ethiopia in 2010 and currently works as Country Manager at Afmobi.

Yilkal has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from Richmond, The American International University in London, and an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has also studied International Baccalaureate at Waterford, United World College of Southern Africa in Swaziland.

Yared Ayele (Broadcasting Sector Head)

IT solutions architect, with ten years of work experience on computer technology, network and network security policy design, network and database administration and large scale systems integration, ICT infrastructure design including, budgeting and procurement specification for tendering process. Yared is graduate of Computer Science from Addis Ababa University.

Currently running company called Systems studio as managing director and project lead, Yared also has experience working for United Nations, Agencies as database software solution developer, process improvement and implementer, Unity University students academic records tracking and resource scheduling solution, small scale private sector software solutions provider and implementer.

Fikre Wondimu, AGM Chairman

Amaha Bekele, AGM Vice Chairman

Amaha is a seasoned IT professional with extensive consulting experience, mainly in the large scale System Integration space. His experiences in the UK include working on a variety of sectors such as government, financial sector and investment banking as well as the Insurance market. Some of Amaha’s experiences include working on very large UK government CRM/ERP implementations as well as with banking giants JPMorgan developing trading systems.

Amaha returned back to Ethiopia in 2005 to setup the IT consulting wing for Ernst & Young Ethiopia, and currently leads the service line with offices across five countries, i.e. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Amaha has a Bachelor’s in Aeronautical Engineering from City University, UK and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Birbeck College, University of London

Abinet Zelalem, Education Outreach

Abinet Zelalem is a software engineer with extensive experience on building Enterprise Application and works for a hi-tech company named Apposit LLC. As a senior software engineer he is responsible for the development and management of different software products produced by the company. Abinet also manages two technology communities in Addis Ababa; the GTUG(Google technology users group) and the Ethiopian open source community. Abinet has a B.Sc. in Computer Sciences from HiLCoE School of Computer Science and Technology.
